International Masonry Training & Education Foundation

The International Masonry Training and Education Foundation (IMTEF) provides in-depth, quality training for the members of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers in all the trowel trades: brick, stone, tile, marble, terrazzo, refractory, plaster, cement and pointing/cleaning/caulking. IMTEF also helps fund and administer training programs for local BAC unions.

New BAC apprentices receive critical job preparation skills through the IMTEF pre-job training programs. Along with craft-specific technical and hands-on training, they learn health, safety and workplace skills. When apprentices complete the program, they are ready to be employed and contribute on the jobsite.

Skilled BAC craftworkers begin their careers as apprentices through their local Joint Apprentice and Training Committee (JATC). Apprenticeships typically last 3–4 years, during which apprentices receive classroom, shop, and on-the-job-training. Much of that training is provided at local union training centers, as well as the National Training Center.

IMTEF delivers health and safety training on many levels, from apprentices to BAC journeyworkers and instructors. A broad variety of required OSHA courses are offered by the four OSHA Master Trainers at the National Training Center, including train-the-trainer programs for local union instructors.

IMTEF also accommodates specific requests for certifications, cross training, upgrade training and other forms of continuing education at the National Training Center. The NTC is equipped and ready to meet the needs of BAC members throughout their working career.
